SAM Selects, previously known as SAM EOI, welcomes proposals from local artists, curators, creative practitioners and community groups for exhibitions in the Community Gallery.
This can include existing work by an individual artist or a collaborative group show.
Past SAM Selects exhibitions featured displays such as ‘Artworks from Prisoner of War Camp 13 Murchison, 2022’ by Murchison and District Historical Society and Murchison RSL, and the ongoing ‘After the Rain’ by Echuca-based artist group Tuesday Junction.
On the other hand, SAM Spotlight offers a paid solo exhibition opportunity for emerging artists residing and working in the Goulburn Valley.
The chosen artist for SAM Spotlight collaborates with the SAM curator to plan, develop and design their solo exhibition.
In the recent ‘Between Scylla and Charybdis | Amphora’ exhibition, Kialla-based artist Aleisa Miksad showcased her intricately hand-coiled ceramics.
SAM curator Caroline Esbenshade said the Community Gallery was dedicated to showcasing the talent of creatives in the region.
“The opportunities offer a rare chance to exhibit within an art museum context, raising the profile of their work and offering unique professional development opportunities,” she said.
The two application rounds are geared toward artists, curators, and community groups interested in presenting a full exhibition in the community gallery.
These opportunities, both for emerging and established creatives, offer a unique chance to exhibit within an art museum context, elevating their work’s visibility and providing exclusive professional development prospects.
Applications for SAM Selects and SAM Spotlight must be submitted via the SAM website by October 2.
