Thanks to Echuca-Moama Rotary Club and Men's Shed, the school has welcomed a new instrument into its music room.
After a phone call from Rotary president Teresa Carlson, Greg Hansford got to work on the marimba.
“Teresa had the idea to make up this marimba for the school, and after ordering the special-made bars, I went to the Men's Shed and Graham Green and I got to work making the base,” Mr Hansford said.
“After cutting all the pieces, I took them back to my house and spent the next 40 hours putting it all together.”
He said the key to making the large xylophone-like instrument was making sure every measurement and cut was perfect.
“It was a challenge, because if you get any cut wrong, the keys will sound wrong, but we took our time and it sounds great,” he said.
Mr Hansford said it was a chance to work with other organisations in town on an important project.
“It was a great for two community groups to work together, we really hope the students get a lot out of it,” he said.
When it was finished, the groups donated the instrument to the school.
ETRSS principal Paul Marshall said the school was grateful for the donation.
“We are extremely thankful for both the Rotary and Men's Shed,” he said.
``The students will love this marimba.
“It will be great for students to get this sensory feeling of music, it's a great way for them to learn and this instrument will be perfect for them.”
