Each class gathered on Friday, March 5 and each group took to each part of the school grounds, collecting stray rubbish.
Grade 6 student Kate Head, who is a member of the school's Respect Leadership team, said keeping the environment clean was top of the list for the group.
“If we can clean up the rubbish on our school grounds, it will be less likely to end up moving around town,” she said.
“It keeps our native wildlife safe and also makes the school look nice.”
The students have taken to other measures to ensure their school is as sustainable as possible.
“As part of the leadership group, we have a range of responsibilities such as looking after our chooks and guinea pigs, making sure all of our food scraps make it into the compost and taking the bins out each week,” grade 6 student Bonilee Giacopnello said.
“The school also encourages each student to take their own rubbish home instead of putting it in the bin here and by doing this we have been able to reduce the number of bins we put out for collection.
“We've seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of rubbish we have at school. It's really good.”
