Shepp Access’s Creating Drama is leaping into the world of talent shows, showcasing their members’ vast and varied talents, such as singing, dancing and instrument playing, with their concert, Creating Drama Has Talent.
Each week, the show’s cast members turn up to rehearsals and rock out to music, preparing to dazzle the Riverlinks Eastbank audience next month.
Shepp Access is a boutique service that supports people with a broad range of disabilities, their families and their carers.
The participants in Creating Drama Has Talent are excited to show the audience that their disabilities won’t hold them back, they said.
“I want to be an inspiration to people who may have disabilities and think they can’t go on stage,” Danika Andronaco said.
“I want to show them that if I can, so can they.”
Creating Drama is also a source of fun for the cast members, allowing them to perform for an audience and make friends along the way.
“We’ll be on stage and the audience will be proud to see us up there and singing and dancing,” Katherine Whyte said.
“My family is happy for me because I’ve been so happy and excited even though I’m nervous,” Joshua Symes said.
“I’m excited about seeing the crowd and for them to see us having a red-hot crack,” Nikki Grogan said.
Creating Drama director Helen Janke said this concert would be the first of its kind.
“I have never had a cast this size; the numbers of Creating Drama are growing, with 23 participants in this show,” she said.
“I cannot wait to showcase these amazing people — and that’s what it’s about actually, getting any of these adults with a disability out there and saying, ‘Hey, look at us’.
“It’s all about celebrating them.”
