The event, run by Stud Beef Victoria and now in its 33rd year, will showcase beef cattle studs across Victoria, the Riverina and south-eastern South Australia.
Thirty breeds will be represented by more than 7000 bulls which are expected to gross $70 million in sales after the event at on-property and multi-vendor sites.
Beef Week chair John Adams said the beef industry had faced significant challenges during 2023, but stud sales were still strong despite price corrections in the commercial industry.
“Generally, the stud stock industry has never performed better, with records broken in several breeds and great clearances,” John said.
“The adage that ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’ has never been more true.”
John said showcasing a herd to a target market was important for presenting innovation adopted by breeders.
“No matter in what breed you are involved, it is imperative to maintain your relevance in an increasingly competitive environment,” he said.
“This is the reason (why) so many forward-thinking enterprises continue to enter Beef Week.
“Some have done so for over 30 years.”
Annie Elliot took over the role of Beef Week director from Geoff Phillips who retired after more than 30 years of service to the event.
Studs will have their sale catalogues available and have sale bulls penned and identified for potential buyers.
A digital map has been provided to help attendees to plan their visits between properties and regions efficiently.
