The hay, about 3000 bales, was worth more than $500,000 and the damage bill to machinery added a further $1.2 million in losses.
And the CFA expects it to burn for another day or two, maybe even longer, as they are in no rush to pull apart the burning piles of hay and exacerbate the situation by providing more oxygen.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but the CFA is not considering it suspicious.
It is the latest in a series of hay fires around the region in the past two weeks but far and away the most expensive.
The fire started about 10.30am and units from as far away as Bendigo joined local CFA brigades in not just fighting the fire but from making sure it did not spread.
