MURRAY River Council has adopted a draft events policy to deliver better guidance and support to event organisers, from small community events to larger commercial festivals.
MRC mayor Cr Chris Bilkey said the policy was created to help free-up some red tape and make it easier for groups to hold an event.
“Our previous policy took a one-size-fits-all approach, which was often not useful for some of our smaller events who, at times had to follow a full DA process, when in reality it may not have been necessary,” he said.
The policy is coupled with a new application form, making it easy for applicants to determine what type of approval is required, whilst still providing sound regulatory advice on risk management and procedures for all levels of events.
“We hope this policy will make the application process easier for our event organisers and further support the delivery of a mix of one-off, recurring and traditional events across our area,” Cr Bilkey said.
MRC’s draft events policy is available for viewing and public comment on council’s website.
