The perfect gift, considering the Moama mum and husband Chris Bronsgeest weren’t expecting their son to be born until his due date on Friday.
Otis Vinnie Bronsgeest arrived at 6.34am on Sunday, May 10, weighing a healthy 3680g (8lb 1oz).
“He’s just beautiful,” Vanessa said.
“We gave him the middle name Vinnie after my dad who passed away 10 years ago.
“It was so lovely to have him on Mother’s Day. I’m 33 now and I wasn’t sure if I wanted children but I’m so happy I did.
“It’s better than our wedding day.”
Maybe not the 24-hour labour though.
“I woke up Saturday morning with contractions which was similar to what I had the week before so I didn’t think anything of it,” Vanessa said.
“However, by 4pm they were getting quite painful so I went to Echuca hospital.
“They thought I’d have the baby that night, but my contractions stopped about midnight so he wasn’t born until the morning.
“It was quite a long process but we got there.”
The Tindarra Resort manager said she and Chris were absolutely smitten with their little boy.
“He’s just so cute and we always wanted a boy,” she said.
“He’s been so good and is breastfeeding well.”
Not even the COVID-19 restrictions could dampen the special milestone.
In fact, it was a positive in the situation.
“I loved the fact we couldn’t have visitors as it gave us precious time to bond and learn about each other,” Vanessa said.
Chris and Vanessa took Otis home today which couldn’t have come at a better time.
“With restrictions easing (in Victoria and NSW), we can have family and friends over to meet him,” she said.
“A week ago, we didn’t think we’d be able to have family over at all, so it’s perfect timing.”
