Since its inception in 2019, council’s waste management team has been reviewing current waste operations and identifying areas that can be improved.
While they have also been finding new ways to better manage the various waste streams (waste, recycling and organics) by planning for the implementation of changes to current operations, as well as preparing for the new long-term Waste Strategy rollout.
“Although the collection of Food Organics and Garden Organics or ‘FOGO’ was due to be rolled out to Moama and Mathoura residents during 2019, some operational issues arose which has caused us to push-back the collection of food organics in our green bins,” mayor Chris Bilkey said.
“It is expected that FOGO collection and processing will begin in the coming months for customers who already have a green bin, while further investigations are occurring to facilitate FOGO collection and processing across the entire LGA.”
Some of the projects they have been investigating include;
● Harmonisation of services to meet the modern needs of the wider community;
● Standardising bin sizes across the LGA for all residential customers;
● Introducing a three-bin collection service (waste, recycling and organics) for all residential customers;
● Landfill and transfer station modifications and upgrades;
● Changes to bin collection days and frequency of collections;
● Repair and replacement frequencies for customer bins.
Further updates to the collection of FOGO and other waste projects will be announced in coming months.
