Last year, almost 800 people applied for the program and there has already been significant interest shown for the new positions.
The roles include line workers, cable jointers and a metering technician, with new recruits to be based at Ardeer, Burnley, Geelong, Ballarat, Horsham, Bendigo and Echuca.
CitiPower and Powercor’s general manager of network services Peter Bryant said he expected even more interest in the program this year.
“These apprenticeships demonstrate we are investing in our internal workforce and the communities we operate in,” Mr Bryant said.
“Our apprentices will be part of our field teams, as we support some of the biggest changes the energy sector has seen, while delivering safe and reliable power to homes and businesses.”
Mr Bryant said the right candidates were enthusiastic team players committed to health and safety.
“We encourage people of all different ages and backgrounds to apply,” he said.
“These roles suit people who enjoy working outdoors and at heights, in all types of weather with a passion for hands-on learning.
“We’re looking for people who want to be part of a team that supports our customers and their needs.
“I’d encourage anyone interested to apply because you might be exactly the type of person we’re looking for.”
Candidates must have a minimum Year 11 pass in General Maths or currently be completing (or completed) a pre-apprenticeship TAFE training course in Electrotechnology (Cert II) to qualify.
