The 2020 Turkish Bazaar, traditionally held on the Monday before the Melbourne Cup, has been cancelled due to the COVID restrictions imposed on the community.
The event which sees stalls set up through Hare Street, street performers and other entertainment options, is one of the highlights on the business calendar for the town, but unfortunately has had to be called off.
Echuca Moama Business and Trades Association president Daniel Mackrell said the outcome was incredibly disappointing, though ultimately necessary.
“The decision was made for the ultimate safety of our community,” he said.
“It's disappointing as it is typically a great day for the whole community, not just our traders. Last year was a great event and we were expecting the same this year.
“But due to the circumstances we had to make this decision.”
Though the event has been called off, the group is currently investigating an alternative.
“We've sent a survey out to our group to see what support they need, and ways we can continue to help,” Mr Mackrell said.
“We're still looking at that for the long run, but we hope we can put something different together to give that support to our traders.
“For now all we can do is work with our traders to support them and look forward to a big Christmas season for the local business community.”
