Wettest October in decade for Echuca

THE Echuca district has had its wettest October in a decade.

A total of 51.7mm of rain fell in the area during the month, the most since 2010 when 112mm was recorded.

The rainfall was more than 10mm above average.

October also saw warmer days than average, with the mercury reaching as high as 34.7°C.

During the next week, temperatures are not expected to exceed a top of 31°C, which is expected on Tuesday.

The next three months are also likely to be wetter than average, while this month's rainfall is expected to be above average across most of the eastern two-thirds of the Australian mainland.

While the state is less likely to see ongoing bushfires during summer, it could face higher grass fuel levels than normal, according to the Bureau of Meteorology's severe weather outlook for October to April.

BOM has also warned a La Niña weather formation could drive heavy rainfall and possible flooding across Victoria.
