The Federal Government has confirmed the $2.5 million in funding that was awarded in 2019 will still be handed over.
That’s despite the Cohuna Aviation Club deciding to close its doors.
“The Australian Government will honour its election commitment to the Cohuna community and funding remains available,” a spokesperson for the government said.
“The government will continue working through arrangements for the delivery of this important commitment and ensure the community receives the infrastructure it deserves.
“Payments are only made once agreed project milestones are completed.”
The Cohuna Lions took over operation of the site in October.
President Anthony Troy said it was important for the site to be upgraded for community needs.
“It’s crucial the air ambulance would have somewhere to land in Cohuna,” he said.
“If it weren’t for the government the threat of losing the site would be very real and it would be a real blow to us.
“As a community group we wanted to put our hand up because we recognise how important these things are.
“Talks with the government have been fantastic and we look forward to working with them again in future.”
