After what was already an unprecedented year with the COVID-19 pandemic, the crew experienced a break-in in January, which resulted in the theft of $1900 worth of portable radios and batteries.
When Rich River Physiotherapy owner Kay Knight and receptionist Jodie Lake caught wind of the incident, they wanted to do what they could to help.
“At the beginning of the year, we pledged to give $5 from each treatment to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal as Kay felt it was horrible to watch on and not be able to do anything about the tragic events unfolding,” Ms Lake said.
“When we heard about the events of Leitchville Fire Brigade, that they had been broken into we wanted to donate a little closer to home.”
With many workers having ties to the area, it became their mission to raise money and raise more than $2500 for the new defib machine.
Leitchville CFA captain Darren Jenkins said it was an amazing gesture from the staff.
“A donation that size is very rare these days and we as the brigade and the community very much appreciate it,” he said.
“It was in the works for a couple of months and we're very thankful for all the work that was put into this donation, it's bloody fantastic.”
