Joining Bingo and Bluey – who came to town in July – will be Blinky Bill, Peppa Pig, the Grinch and a whole lot more to make a total of 16 installations around town.
The idea came about after the success of the Bingo and Bluey hay bale art, which has seen a steady stream of visitors to the town.
“This is an extension of the Bingo and Bluey art because they were so popular, so we thought why not go bigger and try and attract some people who may already be coming to other towns in the region,” Tongala Development Group president Tyler Stagg said.
“We have a group of artists who are helping out, it’s going to be a mix of things with some Christmas themed bales.
“The majority of our artists are from Tongala, with one from Echuca and another from Ky so it’s great to have locals doing it.”
Continuing the community theme, Mr Stagg said the hay bale trail was only possible thanks to the community banding together and a number of businesses donating goods.
“There is a fair list of people to thank – including HW Greenham and Sons, Tongala and District Community Bank, Jake Thompson and Bunnings Echuca,” Mr Stagg said.
For anyone who is planning on making the trip, people are also encouraged to share their photos on Instagram with the tag #tongalahaybaletrail to compile the photos.
“We’re hoping people will share what they get so we can hopefully do something with all the photos at the end,” Mr Stagg said.
And for anyone looking for something to do this weekend, Aunty Neva from Njernda Echuca will be painting a hay bale onsite from 9.30 am this Saturday, weather permitting.
Aunty Neva is Wollithica of the Bangarang people and speaks Yorta Yorta; she will be painting an indigenous inspired piece at Tongala Primary School.
The community is welcome to attend.
