Even more importantly, she said locals who took a local holiday this summer would be helping to save the local economy.
She said businesses on both sides of the Murray had been gutted by COVID-19 closures, interstate travel bans and ongoing uncertainty about what might happen next.
But none of that applies to people living in the Murray’s bubble communities.
“Regardless of what changes have been made this week, if you are in the bubble you can holiday anywhere you like, either side of the Murray,” Ms Mackenzie said.
“While border changes starting on New Year’s Eve have been a devastating blow to businesses at the end of the difficult year that was 2020, these unexpected vacancies offer a rare opportunity for those living in the ‘border bubble’ region to visit the river paradise of Echuca-Moama at the height of its peak season,” she said.
“Echuca-Moama is calling on everyone living in the border region, including the hubs of Bendigo and Shepparton, to holiday locally, supporting the river communities, while also enjoying all the Murray River has to offer.”
Ms Mackenzie said Echuca-Moama remained “very much available as a holiday destination” for many, despite current restrictions preventing others from visiting.
She said a river holiday was the perfect way to take a break this summer if you were a bubble family, as you were able to access both sides of the river with just your driver’s licence to prove your residential address.
“Echuca-Moama has so much to offer; from our beautiful climate and fun on the river to outdoor adventures and great restaurants, wineries and bars,” she added.
“Our locals are certainly hurting, but we’re passionate about our area and all we can offer.
“We’d love to welcome our friends from bordering communities to experience an amazing riverside holiday on their own doorstep.”
