That's the message from Byford's finance manager Cameron Baird - if you want the opportunity, we have it.
“If there is someone who has the drive and attitude to want to work, we want them,” Mr Baird said.
“They don't necessarily need the skills. We have the ability to train and to upskill them, and we will put in the time and effort to train them and get them there.”
Mr Baird said the equipment business was always looking for more staff to fill needs in its production.
“Our labour force is currently 50 per cent of where it needs to be,” he said.
“And we struggle to get local qualified welders, and the same with skilled labourers.
“Right now, in section three we could have another 15 welders tomorrow go straight in and start working.
“We would love nothing more than to be able to hire more local staff to fill those positions with the right training.”
Byford's will be one business offering training and positions as part of the Supporting Business Back to Business campaign, a joint project of the Victorian Government, C4EM, Sureway, Echuca Moama Tourism, Ace Radio and the Riverine Herald.
Mr Baird said the campaign was the perfect opportunity to help businesses find staff.
“It's super critical to be able to fully staff your business,” he said.
“Labour force impacts everything, not just the bottom line. It impacts your customers as well, the delivery dates for products are impacted as well.”
Mr Baird said he hoped to see more opportunities taken as a result of the campaign.
“We are here to help help you, support and upskill you if you're willing to work,” he said.
“We want to see our local people in the workforce, not just for the sake of our company, but for the sake of our community.
“Any opportunity to get people into work is a great one, and we love seeing a campaign like this which will help match people with the opportunities that are out there.”
