About 10 fire trucks will be driving around Echuca, Echuca Village and along the Murray collecting for the Royal Children’s Hospital as part of the Good Friday Appeal.
Volunteers from Echuca, Echuca Village and Bamawm Extension CFA brigades, SES and Echuca-Moama Search and Rescue will be at the Ogilvie Ave and High St traffic lights, as well as collecting in the streets.
Echuca CFA captain Rob Amos said his brigade had raised more than $509,000 over the past 37 years.
‘‘In 1984, the brigade went door to door knocking, as the brigade only had one truck at that time. They raised $550 that year,’’ he said.
‘‘The next year, the figure went to $2351.’’
Mr Amos said he hoped the community members would be generous in their donations this year, as many families would have to use the Royal Children’s Hospital at some point in their lives.
‘‘Firefighter Alan Trevena’s grandson spent a fairly lengthy period of time getting care and treatment at the RCH in the mid-90s and my daughter had a significant knee operation there in 2017, which took six months to recover from,’’ he said.
In Moama, NSW RFS will be rattling tins at the Meninya St roundabout outside the Border Hotel and Moama Fire and Rescue will be doing the rounds at the caravan parks and resorts.
Echuca Lions Club will also be collecting in person this year.
