The sessions will focus on the experience of a councillor and will feature insights from presenter Maire Sheehan, who has previously been the mayor and a councillor with Leichhardt Council.
Ms Sheehan has held various roles in TAFE NSW's vocational education and training sector, with her most recent role being the education program manager.
Murray River Council chief executive Terry Dodds said the aim of the briefings was to give people a better understanding of the role and responsibilities of an elected member.
“Councillors play a crucial role in the decision-making process at council and it is essential anyone considering nominating to run in the upcoming election understands what is involved,” he said.
“We do all we can to support our elected members and we hope these candidate briefings will provide a good overview of what is involved in the role and answer all the questions prospective candidates may have.
“If you’re wanting to run for council, or maybe even just thinking about it, I encourage you to join this session and hear directly from Maire about what it is really like.”
An online briefing session will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at 6.30 pm, and an in-person workshop will take place at Moama Recreation Reserve on Saturday, May 22, from 9.30 am to noon.
