Murray River Council invited local schools to be part of a colouring competition with the theme ‘Why I love living in Echuca-Moama’.
Of nearly 300 entries, 90 were chosen to be etched onto glass and projected onto the boardwalk at Horseshoe Lagoon.
Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School had 10 students selected and art teacher Toni Denson said they were all thrilled.
She said a lot of students had been motivated to put a lot of effort into their art because of the chance to be involved in Moama Lights.
“It was great because it really made them think about why they like living in this area,” Ms Denson said.
“They had to work to the brief, which was they had to make it colourful and make sure it fit inside the circle.
“That was a really good thing from the art perspective because some of them wanted to do other things and I said you’ve got to fit in with the brief design.”
Student Codee Smith said she was “happy and proud of herself” when she found out her artwork of the school gym had been selected.
Chelsea Smith described her artwork as “a koala coming out of a rainbow wall” – inspired by a trip to the Kyabram Fauna Park.
Luke Hendrick said he was surprised when he heard the good news.
“I think I might be proud of myself, I didn’t know I would achieve this much,” he said.
Moama Lights is a free sound and light show at Horseshoe Lagoon every night from May 8 to 22.
Brought to life by Mandylights, a company with Vivid Sydney in its portfolio, the event will tell the story of Echuca-Moama, past and present.
