Council last week adopted in principle a beneficial enterprise management system, which will see an independent body entrusted with running the operations of the port, while also answering to council in an "arm's length approach".
While the move came under fire from a number of port stakeholders, groups have also thrown their support behind the proposal.
Echuca Moama Alliance chair Michael Delahunty said it fully supported the decision.
“The alliance has been working with the Campaspe Shire Council on this issue for the past three years,” he said.
“Over that time, this particular management model has been one that has been looked at a great deal and heavily studied.
“We fully support the decision to endorse the model. I think they are doing it in a very considered way.
“They have looked into all options, into how other similar structures have worked across the state and what can be learned from that.
“I think council are making really good progress on this front, and we fully support them in doing so.”
Mr Delahunty said the priority for the community would always remain seeing the port thrive, and hoped to see progress made as a result of the changes.
“Our bottom line, consistent with our community, has always been to see a lot more activation on the port,” he said.
“That's what it gets back to. Things that attract visitors to the port area, sees them enjoy their time there.
“We have an incredible facility with a lot to offer, and by having a skill-based, independent board with a single purpose of achieving that activation and making it more financially viable, we think it's a great asset this community can benefit from.”
