Council has moved more of its services, including land information certificates, to the web as part of an expansion of its online service capability.
More of council's service have been moved online since 2018 as part of making council services easier for the public, according to chief executive Declan Moore.
“Our commitment is to provide a customer service experience that is effortless, accurate and friendly, including those services that can be effectively transacted or delivered online,” he said.
“It’s also about responding to changing expectations and giving customers choice; the ability to do their business with council where and when it suits them.
“Since we’ve been moving services online, there has been a steady increase in people opting to pay their accounts or lodge a customer request via the website.
“Now they will be able to undertake the planning application process online.”
Manager of development Paul Mackenzie said council received nearly 600 planning applications annually, making the service one of the most used in the region.
“Moving the planning application process and land information certificates online will make it easier and more convenient for residents, businesses and land developers,” he said.
“Instead of having to wait until council’s customer service centres open, people can now take care of their personal and business planning needs at any time, day or night.”
While the service is now available online, hard copy forms are still available for those who prefer to lodge their planning permit request manually.
Residents also have the ability to review current advertised planning applications or search the planning register to view progress of an application through to the decision on the application.
