The Victorian Government is celebrating the contributions and talents of senior Victorians, such as Cohuna’s Hazel Radley, who was one of 16 recipients in 2019.
“It was absolutely humbling, exciting and I also felt very proud to be standing in Government House and have Cohuna recognised,” Ms Radley said.
“Even if you have retired or whatever age you may be, you can still make a worthwhile contribution to society, and it’s healthy for your own self to do that.”
Ms Radley was recognised for her administrative and hands-on support for the Cohuna Neighbourhood House and for her work in the Uniting Church outreach programs.
Victorian Disability, Ageing and Carers Minister Luke Donnellan put the call out for people to celebrate Victorians aged over 60, or over 50 for First Nations people, who support others in their communities.
“The Victorian Senior of the Year awards is our opportunity to celebrate the invaluable contributions senior Victorians make to our state,” he said.
“It is more important than ever to thank these incredible seniors for sharing their skills, experience and time with the community.”
Every nominee will receive a certificate acknowledging their contributions, while award recipients will be honoured at Government House at the Victorian Seniors Festival this October.
The nomination period closes on July 9. More information is available at seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/awards
