Riverlinks Westside and Raz Music are proud to present the performance as well as a screening of the award-winning movie, directed by Cameron Nugent and produced by Andrew Curry, on Friday, November 18, from 7.30pm.
Slava and Leonard Grigoryan wrote and recorded the soundtrack to the movie, which has received rave reviews and won awards at festivals including the Boston Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival and Prescott Film Festival.
A Boy Called Sailboat follows the story of a close-knit Hispanic family discovering fresh hope in their extraordinary son Sailboat.
The remarkable story, centred on the themes of love, hope and family, is told through elements of music as Sailboat’s story is entwined with the music that comes from his ukelele.
Sailboat and his ukelele are inseparable, and when his ill grandmother requests he write a song for her, Sailboat meanders through adversity to deliver the unimaginable — the greatest song ever written.
The film features a star-studded cast including Academy Award-winning actor J.K. Simmons, Noel G, Elizabeth De Razzo, Jake Busey, Lew Temple and Julian Atocani Sanchez.
“The musical themes in A Boy Called Sailboat are an integral part of the film,” Mr Curry and Mr Nugent said.
“Lucky for us we met Slava and Lenny, the magnificent Grigoryan Brothers, who delivered way above expectation.
“Their performance in the recording is just sublime, and once we heard it, we knew that it would be best heard live.”
The brothers said it had been a pleasure and privilege creating the soundtrack for the film.
“We loved the idea of having nothing but two guitars as a backdrop to the wonderful story,” they said.
A Q&A session will be held with Mr Nugent after the session.
Tickets are $30 to $41 and are available in person, online or from the Riverlinks box office on 03 5832 9511.
