Vocational Major students received tips on healthy eating and healthy recipes from the ERH team before choosing recipes for the project.
According to ERH population health manager Danielle Paterson, the project is a good example of how health and education can work together.
“From the ERH’s perspective we are very proud of the cookbook and the students’ commitment to creating the recipes,” she said.
“It is a fabulous demonstration of how health and curriculum can work in unison.”
The work around the cookbook began in Term 2 and has been completed over a number of months.
The book includes a range of recipes to cover every meal, including snacks, lunch, dinner and even smoothies.
All the recipes were tried and tested by the VM students through a process of workshops, cooking sessions, taste tests and design.
Echuca College VM teacher Philly Brill said students were able to choose which recipes they wanted to create.
“Each student was tasked with finding a recipe category — snacks, lunch or dinner — that appealed to them,” she said.
“They were then helped by Danielle to substitute ingredients out to create more ‘healthy’ recipes.”
The launch will be held at the Echuca College Cafe from 1pm.
The cookbook will also be available for purchase from the school’s front office after the launch.
