Throughout 2020, the region’s governing body held meetings to discuss the outlook of its competitions for the next generation of stars.
Following an extensive process, it has been decided the under 10, 12, 14 and 16 age groups will remain for the leagues including teams from Echuca-Moama and the surrounding district.
But the process has brought about a change for the Seymour District league which will switch to under 11, 13 and 15.
This decision was made to on the back of evidence-based data and support of clubs to revitalise and make the Seymour league sustainable into the future.
A board will be formed to oversee all three competitions with each league to have their own sub-committee.
“It is clear that the nature of participation in junior sport is changing, we need to become more flexible to assist in kids playing junior sport” AFLGM commissioner Quentin Thomson said.
GCJFL chair Chris Thomas said “extra efforts and opportunities are being built to encourage and support volunteers and parent engagement, which will be rolled out in 2021".
“This will ensure that junior sport continues to be a fun and exciting environment for all junior players in these leagues.”
