UPDATE, 4PM SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7: River levels, photos

The Broken River at Orrvale has remained steady all day, currently sitting at 7.69m.

The Seven Creeks at Kialla West is at 4.72m.

The Goulburn River at Shepparton has risen marginally throughout the day, and is now at 9.73m.

UPDATE, 10.20AM SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7: Orrvale warnings

The major flood warning for the Broken River downstream of Casey Weir to Kialla remains in place.

The river level at Orrvale is currently 7.77m, in the moderate flooding band.

It is expected to peak at around 7.8m today, just short of the 7.9m major flooding level, but with a large amount of water also converging on the area from the Seven Creeks system it could reach the major level overnight into Sunday.

UPDATE, 10.10AM SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7: Watt Rd closed

Watt Rd, between McLennan St, Mooroopna and Old Tip Rd, Kialla, is closed due to flooding.

Residents are encouraged to seek alternate routes between Kialla and Mooroopna.

Archer St, Kialla, has also closed this morning, between Oxbow Ave and Kialla Lakes Dve, due to rising floodwaters.

Vic Emergency has notified Kialla West residents that the river level in the Seven Creeks has now peaked.

The water reached a moderate flooding level of 5.16m around 8.45pm last night, and has gradually fallen since.

The Goulburn River at Shepparton reached minor flooding levels overnight, but is sitting steady at 9.6m.

UPDATE 5.40PM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6: Watch and act for Broken River from downstream of Casey Weir to Kialla

A watch and act has been issued for Broken River flooding.

The Broken River at Orrvale was sitting around the moderate flood level at 7.29m at 5.14pm.

Vic Emergency says it may peak around 7.8m during Saturday, with further rises to major flood level possible.

It says due to combined flooding in the Broken River and the Seven Creeks, high river and creek levels are causing flooding into low-lying areas in the Kialla and Kialla West areas.

Vic Emergency says flooding above floor level of single-story homes and sheds may occur in some places, and local roads and brides may be closed due to flooding.

The flood may be similar to the 1996 flood.

Vic Emergency says, with the predicted flood height, Lake Kialla will over spill over into Gordon Drive.

UPDATE 5.15PM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6: Goulburn River minor flood warning for Eildon to Seymour, minor flooding possible at Shepparton

Minor flooding of the Goulburn River is occurring downstream of Lake Eildon to Seymour.

At 5pm the Goulburn downstream of Lake Eildon was sitting at 3.42m and is likely to remain above the minor flood level of 3m for the remainder of today and into Saturday.

The Goulburn River at Seymour, at 5pm, was sitting at 4.31m and steady with minor flooding.

It is likely to remain above the minor flood level of 3.8m overnight tonight and into Saturday.

Vic Emergency says that at the minor level of 3.8m, the Goulburn River Caravan Park at Seymour may start to flood in low lying parts.

There will also be localised flooding along river frontage between Kings Park and the Old Hume Hwy.

Minor flooding from the Goulburn River is also possible at Shepparton on Saturday.

Greater Shepparton City Council has advised of more road closures due to flooding.

UPDATE 3.20PM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6: Flooding nearing its peak at Kialla West

The main flood peak along the Sevens Creek is approaching Kialla West.

At 3pm, the Sevens Creek at Kialla West was sitting at 5.11m and rising.

This is above the moderate flood level of 5m.

Vic Emergency said the Seven Creeks may peak in the area near 5.2m this evening, with moderate flooding.

The river level may fall below the moderate flood level during Saturday, according to Vic Emergency.

Low lying areas such as parks and walking tracks near the waterway are likely to be flooded.

At the moderate level of 5m, Raftery Rd at Kialla becomes flooded between the bridge and Edgewater Rd, and Arcadia Downs traffic is likely to be detoured.

UPDATE 12.10PM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6: Goulburn River minor flooding possible at Shepparton

A minor flood warning has been issued for the Goulburn River from Seymour to Shepparton.

Vic Emergency says minor flooding is possible at Shepparton overnight tonight.

It may reach the minor flood level of 9.5m overnight tonight and into tomorrow.

Vic Emergency says some local roads may be closed and low bridges under water.

Watt Rd between Kialla and Mooroopna and Raftery Rd at Kialla start to flood at a level of 8.75m.

Low lying caravan parks and camp grounds may be flooded.

In the 24 hours to 9am today, rainfall of up to 20mm have been seen across the Goulburn River catchment and flow levels from Lake Eildon are expected to remain around 17,000 megalitres until at least 9am tomorrow.

In regards to any operation at Loch Garry, Goulburn-Murray Water says Bureau of Meteorology forecasts show at this stage the Goulburn River is unlikely to reach 10.36m at Shepparton, which is the level at which the regulator at Loch Garry is operated.

However, if the Goulburn River does reach 10.36m at the Shepparton gauge, it is assumed that the regulator will be operated to the scenario for events above 10.36m but below 11m, G-MW said.

UPDATE 11AM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6: Road closures, Orrvale has reached minor flood level

Mitchell Rd at Kialla is closed between Goulburn Valley Hwy and Archer Rd, due to the flooding of the bridge.

Raftery Rd at Kialla remains open at this stage.

The Broken River at Benalla is currently at 2.33m and falling and no further flooding is expected along the Broken River to Benalla.

Vic Emergency says moderate flooding is expected at Orrvale Friday afternoon, and major flooding is possible from Saturday morning.

The river is currently at 6.8m at Orrvale ‒ which is minor flood level ‒ and rising.

Vic Emergency says it is expected to exceed the moderate flood level of 7.2m this afternoon and may peak around 7.8m Saturday morning.

However, further rises to the major flood level of 7.9m is possible.

UPDATE, 10.15AM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6: Hello there

Hi everyone

The Seven Creeks at Kialla West has reached minor flood level.

At 7am today it was sitting at 4.79m and is still rising.

At Euroa, Seven Creeks is falling, sitting below minor flood level at 2.3m at 9.08am.

In Arcadia, the Castle Creek was steady at 1.79m at 8.53am.

The Broken River at Orrvale is sitting at 6.8m at 10.12am this morning ‒ below minor flood level.

The river is officially sitting steady, but had been rising ever so slightly.

At Benalla it was sitting steady below minor flood level at 2.32m at 9.04am.

At Caseys Weir it was sitting steady at 1.60m at 9.06am.

In Arcadia, the Castle Creek was steady at 1.79m at 8.53am.

The Goulburn River is rising at Shepparton and McCoy’s Bridge this morning.

At 10am it was sitting at 8.33m at Shepparton, which is below the minor flood level of 9.5m.

At McCoy’s Bridge it was sitting at 3.51m and rising at 10am - which is also below minor flood level.

At 9.08am, the Goulburn River was steady at a minor flood level at Seymour (4.28m), below minor flood level at Murchison (6.05m), and was 7.08m at Arcadia Downs.

UPDATE, 5.15PM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5: River levels and warnings

The Goulburn River is at 5.79m and rising, below the minor flooding level of 9.5m.

Vic Emergency says minor flooding is possible at Shepparton on Friday morning - with Watt Rd and Raftery Rd likely to experience flooding at that level.

Moderate flooding is possible at Kialla West overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

The Seven Creeks at Kialla West is currently at 3.75m and rising, approaching the minor flood level of 4.5m and moderate flood level of 5m.

The Broken River at Orrvale is at 5.24m, and is likely to exceed the minor flooding level of 6.8m overnight.

It is possible that the river level may reach the moderate flood level of 7.2m on Friday morning.

UPDATE, 3.10PM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5: Moderate flood warning downstream of Euroa

A moderate flood warning has been issued for Seven Creeks downstream of Euroa.

Moderate flooding is possible at Kialla West overnight Thursday and into Friday.

River levels at Euroa and upstream continue to ease.

Seven Creeks at Kialla West is currently at 3.52m and rising.

It is currently below the minor flood level of 4.5m but is likely to exceed it Thursday evening.

The river may may reach the moderate flood level (5m) overnight Thursday into Friday.

Vic Emergency says flooding above floor level of a single-storey home in some places is likely to occur.

UPDATE, 2.10PM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5: Minor flood warning for Shepparton

A minor flood warning has been issued for the Goulburn River from Seymour to Shepparton.

Minor flooding is possible at Shepparton early Friday morning, according to Vic Emergency.

The Goulburn River at Shepparton is currently at 5.25m and rising, and may reach the minor flooding level of 9.5m early Friday morning.

For reference, Watt Rd and Raftery Rd in Shepparton begin to flood at 8.75m.

UPDATE, 1.10PM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5: Moderate flood warning

A moderate flood warning has been issued for Broken River, between Benalla and Casey Weir.

Minor flooding may also occur downstream of Casey Weir.

The Broken River at Orrvale is currently 4.51m and steady, but may reach 6.8m (the minor flood level) today.

The Midland Hwy is closed at Stewarton, and Ackerley Ave in Benalla is closed due to floodwater. The Monash Bridge may still have only one lane open, according to Vic Emergency, with local traffic controllers supervising car movements.

UPDATE, 10.50AM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5: Campers rescued

Word from Cobram Courier journalist Gabriel Garcia is that a pair of campers had to be rescued from the banks of the Murray River yesterday.

Cobram SES were called to assist the duo with evacuating themselves and their equipment just after 6am.

It was just one of 15 calls Cobram SES responded to in the space of 12 hours.

Good morning all.

The minor flood peak in the Seven Creeks is heading towards Kialla West today, but the moderate flooding at Euroa has already begun to ease.

No significant rainfall has been recorded in the past 24 hours.

Seven Creeks at Kialla West is currently at 3.14m and rising, and likely to hit the minor flooding level on 4.5m this afternoon.

It may then reach the moderate flooding level of 5m by this evening.

In the Broken River, there is minor flooding occuring at Benalla - with Bridge St closed southbound between Fawckner Dve and Arundel St.

The minor flooding is likely to extendend downstream to Casey Weir today.

Minor flooding is likely in the Goulburn River today around Seymour.

UPDATE, 5.10PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Situation as it stands

Rain across Greater Shepparton calmed down across the day, but more is forecast for the catchment areas of the Goulburn River, Broken River, Broken Creek and Seven and Castle Creeks overnight and into Thursday.

Releases from Lake Eildon are also increasing across the next 24 hours.

The Seven Creeks at Euroa is currently in minor flood, with moderate flooding possible overnight.

Minor flooding is possible at Kialla West on Thursday morning, while other areas around Greater Shepparton are on flood watch.

We’ll have any major updates for you here if they emerge across the evening.

UPDATE, 4.50PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Some roads closed

Some roads have been closed around Euroa, Violet Town and on the way to Shepparton due to flooding.

Sections of Foy St, Creek Dve, Neelands Rd, Parker St, Saxon St and Railway St in Euroa are closed.

Part of Mitchell St, Violet Town, is also closed.

Riggs Creek Rd, Euroa, between Moglonemby Rd and Murchison-Violet Town Rd is also shut.

UPDATE, 3.30PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Releases from Eildon

Goulburn Murray Water has confirmed that releases from Lake Eildon will gradually increase from 4500ML per day to 12,000ML per day this afternoon.

This will remain steady overnight before increasing gradually to 17,000-20,000ML per day from 9am tomorrow.

UPDATE, 3PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Flood watch, man rescued from floodwaters

Broken River downstream of Casey Weir - towards Shepparton - has been issued with a flood watch alert.

Minor flooding is possible tonight, into Thursday morning.

Victoria Police have also released a statement following a floodwater rescue last night.

“Police were called to reports a man needed assistance in floodwaters in Alexandra,” police media said.

“It is believed the man was on a tractor attempting to rescue cattle around 8.35pm when he got into difficulty and was surrounded by water.

“Victoria Police Search and Rescue Squad – Swift Water Rescue Team were able to successfully rescue man.

“The 43-year-old Alexandra man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

UPDATE, 2.30PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: More details for Kialla West

A minor flooding warning is in place for Seven Creeks downstream of Euroa.

Minor flooding is possible at Kialla West on Thursday morning, while moderate flooding may occur at Euroa this afternoon.

The river level at Kialla West is currently 1.97m, but may reach the minor flooding level of 4.5m on Thursday morning.

The river level at Euroa is 3.97m, approaching the moderate flooding level of 4m.

UPDATE, 2.15PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Warnings moving closer to Shepparton

The Goulburn River downstream of Seymour and the Seven and Castle Creeks downstream of Euroa are now on ‘flood watch’.

Both of these areas are towards Shepparton.

Vic Emergency is warning that areas around rivers and streams may be flooded, and that low-lying caravan parks and camping grounds could experience flooding as well.

UPDATE, 2PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Broken Creek joins alerts

A flood watch has been issued for the region east and north-east of Shepparton.

Minor flooding is possible around the Broken Creek late today into Thursday morning.

The warning effects the following places and townships;

Baddaginnie, Benalla, Boho, Boho South, Broken Creek, Caniambo, Cosgrove South, Dookie, Dookie College, Goomalibee, Goorambat, Gowangardie, Kialla, Kialla East, Koonda, Major Plains, Mount Major, Nalinga, Orrvale, Pine Lodge, Pine Lodge South, Shepparton, Shepparton East, Stewarton, Tarnook, Upotipotpon and Warrenbayne.

The Broken River either side of Benalla has also been issued with a minor flood warning.

In the 24 hours leading up to 11am today, up to 126mm of rainfall has been observed in the Broken River catchment.

Minor flooding may develop at Benalla tonight, and extend downstream to Casey Weir on Thursday morning.

UPDATE, 1.45PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Seymour alerted

A moderate flood warning is in place for the Goulburn River upstream of Lake Eildon.

Minor flooding is possible at Seymour overnight.

In the 24 hours to 1pm today, rainfall totals up to 150mm have been observed across the Goulburn River catchment, and more rain is on the way.

UPDATE, 1.15PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Plenty of rain

Shepparton had 66mm of rain in the 24 hours between 9am Tuesday and 9am this morning.

Seymour (72mm), Euroa (82mm) and Benalla (81mm) were also drenched in the same time period.

Benalla has had the most significant rain today, with 10mm between 9am and 1pm.

Invergordon’s Luke Felmingham posted this morning about his rainfall in Invergordon, with 80mm in the gauge.

Reports have also been rolling in about cars banked up on the Goulburn Valley and Hume Hwys with flat tyres.

Those calling them in have also reported seeing a large number of potholes opening up, likely due to the heavy rain.

One particular spot, southbound near Nagambie, seems to be causing a number of issues.

UPDATE, 10.45AM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4: Kialla West residents alerted

A watch and act notification for a moderate flood warning has been issued this morning for the Seven Creeks to Euroa.

Moderate flooding is likely at Euroa this morning, and minor flooding is deemed possible at Kialla West on Thursday morning.

In the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday, the Seven and Castle Creeks have seen rainfall totals of 60-110mm, causing river rises.

Further showers are forecast today.

The Seven Creeks at Kialla West is currently at 1.9m, well below the minor flood level of 4.5m - but is expected to hit that mark tomorrow morning.

The Seven Creeks at Euroa is currently at 3.82m and rising, with minor flooding.

Potential impacts in the area

•Flooding above floor level of low lying and single-story homes or sheds is likely to occur in some locations.

Flood impacts at Euroa can include:

•At 4m moderate flood level. Factory Rd is likely to start being inundated with water.

•At 3.5m, this was the height of the January 2011 flood.

•At 3.14m, this was the 2020 flood level. The area around the Memorial Oval may be inundated with water, closing the walking track.

•At 2.5m, minor flood level, flooding on local roads. Moglonemby Rd may be inundated with water. Euroa Caravan Park, Rotary Park, park area around the Memorial Oval and Euroa Bowls Club are likely be inundated with water.

UPDATE, 5PM TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3: Rainfall figures

Areas around Benalla had up to 15mm of rain between 9am and 4pm on Tuesday, feeding the Broken River.

The regions around Euroa and Strathbogie - which feed the Seven and Castle Creeks - had up to 55mm of rain in the same time period.

As for the Goulburn River catchments, Eildon had 32mm, the areas around Seymour up to 53mm and Goulburn Weir 23mm.

Shepparton (8.2mm) and Tatura (13mm) also had significant rainfall across the day, which was expected to continue into the night.

At the time of writing, there is no minor flooding in any of the catchments.

UPDATE, 2.50PM TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3: Goulburn River also on alert

The Goulburn River from Eildon to Seymour - and further downstream towards Shepparton - is on flood watch.

Minor to moderate flooding is ‘likely’ from late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, with isolated major flooding ‘possible’ from Wednesday - according to Vic Emergency.

The warning comes after an earlier notification about the Broken River and Seven and Castle Creeks.

Areas around Euroa and Strathbogie, as well as Seymour, have received up to 40mm of rain since 9am on Tuesday.

22mm of rain has fallen in Eildon across the same time period, with 17mm (Goulburn Weir), 15mm (Moorlim), 7mm (Tatura) and 4.2mm (Shepparton) falling in other areas.

EARLIER, 12.30PM TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3: Flood alerts in place

A flood watch has been issued for catchments in the Greater Shepparton region.

The Broken River and the Seven and Castle Creeks are the focus of the alert.

Minor to moderate flooding is ‘likely’ from late Tuesday (October 3) into Wednesday, according to Vic Emergency, with major flooding ‘possible’ from Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall across the week is causing river levels to rise and is likely to impact Broken River and Seven and Castle Creeks catchments areas, among others across the state.
