He was an exceptional athlete, gifted and talented batsman, superb fieldsman and more than handy bowler who had an overwhelming confidence in his own ability that he could exude on to opposition players.
His enthusiasm and passion for his team and club also extended towards the junior players rising through the ranks.
At any opportunity Purcell would be at the club, whether it be playing or as a spectator, bowling to juniors, training or just hanging with fellow teammates.
His commitment was undeniable and he would set standards for himself that very few others could achieve.
Games, training and social times at the club were certainly entertaining when Purcell was around. He loved and contributed to the endless sport discussions, strategic planning of upcoming matches and just the general banter around the club.
Purcell died after being hit by a car in June last year. He was 20.
In Purcell's memory, the Alexandra Cricket Club has introduced a perpetual trophy aptly named the Jordan Purcell Memorial - Under 21s Most Valuable Player Award.
This award will be presented annually to a talented young player who shows passion, dedication and sportsmanship to the game of cricket.
Recipients will be awarded a trophy and have their name engraved on the memorial shield that will be mounted at the Alexandra clubrooms.
This year the Jordan Purcell Memorial - Under 21s Most Valuable Player is awarded to Jacob Bourke.
Bourke had a stellar season and was big part B-grade last year.
This year, he took the next step in being a pivotal part of the team as one of its gun batsmen, fantastic fielder and, at times, wicketkeeper.
His enthusiasm to apply himself at any level has been exemplified in the way that he captained and ran the under 16s team.
He was always mindful to give everyone a go and do his best to be fair to all players.
Bourke has also represented Alexandra in Country Week cricket and performed exceptionally well at this level.
His enthusiasm around the club and at training is almost contagious.
He is a deserving winner of this award.
The Alexandra Cricket Club and the Purcell family warmly congratulate Bourke and all future winners who help commemorate Purcell's memory.
