This week’s pic of the week from Estelle Close is of the Indented Head ship wreck, the Ozone, on the northern shore of Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula between Geelong and St Leonards. This is all that is left of an 1886 Scottish-built steam ship. Her first revenue earning voyage took place on December 18,1886, sailing from Melbourne to Mornington, Sorrento, Queenscliff and return. Sadly some of the glamour of the occasion was lost when Ozone, berthing at Queenscliff for the first time, collided heavily with the pier.

Trust for Nature
A northern Victorian project to save the plains-wanderer has been named a finalist in the 36th Banksia National Sustainability Awards in the Biodiversity category.
The project spearheaded by conservation organisation Trust For Nature has seen 650 hectares of the plains-wanderer’s native grassland permanently protected.

Carrier honoured
Southern Riverine transport operator Craig Congram has been honoured by the National Rural Carriers.
The Kenworth icon was presented with the award at National Carriers Conference for his ongoing contributions to the transport/carrier industry.
The award is presented by the Australian Livestock and Rural Tranporters Association (ALRTA) with Paccar Kenworth.
It was the 40th year the award has been presented.
In a new initiative by ALTRA Pauline Kennedy also received the inaugural award for the Rural Transport Woman of the Year.
Turck roll over
About 200 sheep perished in a truck rollover at the north roundabout at Deniliquin on April 8.
One of the main entrances to the town was blocked for nearly four hours in the clean-up operation .
The truck was carrying 650 sheep and the driver suffered minor injuries.
Clubs merge
Shepparton Club and Kialla Golf Club have combined in a move to strengthen both organisations.
Kialla members were in favour of the amalgamation.
Shepparton Club general manager Wayne Sutton said the amalgamation represented more than just a merger of the two clubs, ‘‘it’s a celebration of what makes our community great’’.
Award winning delights
Shepparton’s and Mooroopna’s North End Bakehouse has scooped two major awards.
It was named Australian winner of best Hot Cross Bun and Vanilla Slice awards at the recent Victorian Baking Show.
A total of 127 entries from Victoria, South Australia and NSW contested the awards.
It is the fourth win in the past five years in the Hot Cross Bun section and the third successive win in the Best Vanilla slice category.
