Headspace Shepparton is looking for young people to join its Youth Advisory Committee for 2024. The mission, if you accept it, can lead to profound changes in how mental health services are provided not only in Shepparton but nationally.
What is it?
The youth advisory committee is a group of 10 to 15 people from diverse backgrounds united in one mission: advancing youth mental health and wellbeing.
What does it entail?
The committee has several missions, such as:
• Giving you a platform to have your voice heard and acted upon
• Giving you an opportunity to have a say in the services offered by Headspace Shepparton as well as the mental health services offered nationally
• Providing you with opportunities for professional development in various fields, such as leadership, media, communication and advocacy skills
• Supporting young people to lead projects locally
• Allowing you to direct and develop youth mental health policy
• Providing you with the opportunity to network with your peers and make new friends in a safe environment
Okay, but I am a busy person!
We got you covered. The committee meets once a month for about two hours, and dinner is included! This is the best way to make a difference in the community while making friends.
Headspace actively encourages applications from all young people, though it highly encourages young people from the below-mentioned cohorts to apply as well:
• Young people with lived experience of mental illness and/or who have accessed Headspace services in the past
• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander young people
• Young people from multicultural and refugee backgrounds
• Young people who identify as LGBTQIA+
• Young people with a disability
• Young men
To register your interest in becoming a member of the Youth Advisory Committee, complete this registration form by February 29.
The Headspace Shepparton community awareness co-ordinators will inform you of the next steps. This will include an in-person discussion before confirming membership of the committee.
