Bendi-Con, like Comic-Con, is an event where pop culture and science fiction is celebrated and people dress up as their favourite characters.
As the name suggests, Bendi-Con will take place in Bendigo for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mr O’Neill said he would be dressed as the sixth and most colourful Doctor Who, Colin Baker.
“I chose the sixth Doctor because not a lot of people dress up as him,” he said.
“I have seen many people dress up as different versions of Doctor Who but the sixth one is quite unique and colourful.”
But don’t be fooled by his vibrant and friendly appearance, this Doctor has been fighting the likes of Daleks and Cybermen for thousands of years in order to protect the past, present and future.
Mr O’Neill said he had been a fan of Doctor Who since he was five years old.
“My mum always had Doctor Who playing on the television when I was a kid and that’s when I first got into it,” he said.
“I now have 11 Doctor Who outfits, which I have worn at different dress-up events but I’ve always been more of a classic series fan rather than the newer seasons.”
He said this was the first Bendi-Con event that had gone ahead since the pandemic.
“The first time I went, I just enjoyed it so much that I kept deciding to go back every year that it’s been on,” Mr O’Neill said.
“It’s all really just a bit of a fun.”
Bendi-Con will be held from 10am to 4pm on September 18 at 91 Inglis St, West Bendigo.
