As usual, accommodation providers around the area saw a boost in bookings over the Christmas and new-year break.
According to Echuca Moama Accommodation Association secretary Debbie Egan, accommodation services were pleased with the flow of visitors to town.
“I think those within the accommodation sector would be very happy, it’s been a good season so far with steady numbers,” she said.
“Restaurants and clubs would be very happy, too, and hopefully people have been spending some money in the local stores.”
As in previous years, early December was relatively quiet for local lodgings, with only those visiting family members making early trips.
During the Christmas and new-year weeks, bookings picked up, as families made the most of their time off.
With many people’s holidays now over, businesses are preparing for the usual slowdown.
However, the lull is expected to be short-lived, as bookings for the Australia Day weekend have already begun.
While booking numbers have remained consistent with previous years, Mrs Egan said many people were more cautious about spending money on accommodation.
“People have money to spend but they are being very cautious where they spend it, which I think is the general theme for everything everywhere these days,” she said.
“With the cost of living, the confidence isn’t there for people to spend money.”
Despite the challenges, Mrs Egan said she was happy people were still visiting.
“It’s still great to see everyone come up to enjoy what we have here. It is a beautiful spot, why would you want to be anywhere else?” she said.
“We’re so lucky we have golf courses, a really good range of restaurants and clubs, and pretty much everything you need up here.”
