East Shepparton Bowls Club put on the spread of all spreads for its annual Biggest Morning Tea on Friday, May 20.
Cakes, slices, biscuits galore — the sweet treats were only the tip of the iceberg at the Shepparton East Bowling Club, according to club member Val Le Lievre.
She said there were more than 100 participants on the day, turning out to see guest speaker Goulburn Murray Community Leadership program and strategy manager Vicki Scott and two guest speakers from GenesisCare Shepparton oncology centre.
“From my point of view, I’ve never had cancer, I’ve never had to deal with it, but they completely humanised it,” Ms Le Lievre said.
“You felt as though it didn’t matter if you did have cancer, they made it seem like it didn’t have to be this huge, scary thing, that if people did have a problem to not hesitate, to come in — that you would be so welcome.”
With a number of raffles and donations, the club raised $2000 to go to Cancer Council for those impacted by cancer, up from $1500 the previous year.
