Congratulations to our club president Pat Schram who was awarded a life membership of the CVBD at the weekend.
Several of our bowlers took part in the CVBD Championship day at Rich River on Sunday with mixed results.
Firstly Louisa Dean won the ladies state novice championship with a 21-10 victory over Denise Gilmore of Lockington with some awesome bowling.
June Clifford and Gayle Kerr teamed with Beryl Murray of Mathoura to win the ladies state triples from another three members in Leica Roney, Lee Beattie and Kerryn Evans.
It’s a great effort by both teams in making the final.
Unfortunately Gayle Kerr, June Clifford, Jill Young and Sue Proctor lost the ladies state fours final.
Pat Schram and Kerryn Evans were unsuccessful in their bid to win the ladies pairs and Steve Cunnington went down in the men’s state singles final.
Thursday’s jackpot pairs saw 24 teams compete.
At the completion of the games there were seven teams to win both games with the best being Trevor Liddell and Daryl LaVelle (2+19) from John Dinsdale and Bill Cook (2 16).
The best one game went to Barry Devlin and Charlie Williams (10).
On the pennant front, mid-week played their last round before the finals with White defeating Mathoura Red by 20 shots, winning all rinks to move into second on the ladder.
The best performance came from Michelle Cunnington (s), Kristy Gillingham, Bill Cook and Robyn Tooley (11).
Blue hosted Rich River and won by nine shots but unfortunately failed to make the finals in their group.
The best rink went to Marie Malone (s), Jeanette Breen, Belinda Chong and Jacque Millar (7).
Only divisions one and two competed last weekend with both teams having good victories.
In division one, we played host to Rochester and had an enormous 57-shot victory, winning all three rinks.
The best rink was Dennis Compton (s), Steve Cunnington, Garry Armstrong and John Dinsdale (30), winning 16 of the 21 ends.
Matt Liverton (s), Jim Ferrier, Trevor Liddell and Matt Brighton received an honourable mention for also winning 16 of the 21 ends to get home by 24 shots.
Division two travelled to Rochester and managed a seven-shot victory to consolidate fourth position.
The best rink went to Steve McCartney (s), Toby Egan, Mal Thorn and Eddie Blampied (12).
All four divisions have qualified for finals with our teams to play at Rich River on Saturday.
Upcoming tournaments are the Echuca Racing Club sponsored mixed medley pairs to be held on Sunday, February 28 with entries to Rhonda Gallagher on 0448 400 051.
And the ladies 2x4x2 Triples sponsored by Jenharwill Baling to be held on Wednesday, March 10.

Lockington
With the finish of the snap five-day Victorian lockdown, bowlers may be able to concentrate on the forthcoming finals without any further interruption - we pray.
Last Tuesday, the annual twilight mixed fours was cancelled because of the above, and has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 9 starting at 5pm.
Entries to Lorraine Appleby on 0427 569 802 or Annie Haines on 5486 8220.
On Thursday, the club held a sponsors night of bowls.
A gathering of some 30 players enjoyed a wonderful evening of fun and genuine friendship.
The club welcomed staff and partners from Autobarn Echuca for the evening and there was plenty of untapped talent on display.
Manager Matt thanked the club for the night of bowls and organisers Brian Kinnane, assisted by Bev Brereton and Pauline Humbert, awarded the better performed bowlers a club glass.
A successful evening and thanks to Brian Kinnane for his effort and his organisational skills.
Visitor Brian Howell displayed some talent but was reminded by his wife to stick to bingo.
With a bye in CVBD division three and four pennant, our bowlers had a strong practice match and will be ready to tackle City of Echuca in both division semi-finals on Saturday.
The semi-finals will be played at the Rich River Bowls Club.
On Sunday, the CVBD Champions day was held at the Rich River Bowls Club.
Our club representative Denise Gilmore challenged City of Echuca Louisa Dean in the State Novice Singles.
After a slow start Gilmore was unable to contain the stylish bowling of her opponent and lost the game 21-10.
Gilmore was gallant in defeat and would be disappointed with the result, however the margin did not indicate the closeness of the heads in general.
It was interesting to note the family related bowling bloodline of Dean.
Her father John was a talented bowler at Rich River, her mother - a sister to local legend Graham "Tex" Harrison, grandmother being Jean Harrison - was a long term bowler at Moama and a great aunt in Alice McMinn was a 21-time club champion at Lockington.
May Louisa enjoy more success in bowls.
At the Friday evening barbecue and practice the large crowd was treated to a fine meal.
Life member Roy Perks was unable to be there to collect the lucky members’ draw.
The club is accepting entries for the long awaited Waterwheel Classic Fours to be held on Sunday, March 21, starting at 9.30am.
Entries to Chris Stewart 5486 2607 or Tom Davis.
Early entries are encouraged.

CVBD State Bowls
We had several teams and players take part.
Adam Harding played in the men's singles novice, but just found his opponent too good on the day.
Men's fours: There was an exciting game which required an extra end to be played to get a result which went to Rich River.
Our team of Mick Humphreys, Ash Vesty, Les Bates and Rod Werner all played well but were brought undone by a great upshot that put the kitty in the ditch for one shot.
Ladies fours: Joan Moss played in a composite side which included Deni RSL players Christine Taylor, Chris Frampton and J. Tonta and they all combined for a great win.
Ladies triples: Beryl Murray played in a composite side with Gayle Kerr and June Clifford, both from Echuca, to take out the event with a great display of pressure bowls.
Rich River
A hectic but very satisfying weekend of bowls began with the mid-week pennant team registering a one-shot victory in their last home and away game of the season.
They finished in top position, and now move into the division two semi-final on Friday, February 26 being playing at Echuca.
On Saturday, the weekend pennant division one team was only narrowly defeated and division two recorded a good win to finish off the home and away season.
As a result three of our teams, being divisions one, two and four, all of which finished in second position, will now play in the semi-finals being played at Echuca on Saturday, February 27.
Congratulations to all these teams on a successful season and let's get behind them with our support by turning up at the venues to cheer them on.
Practice for these teams is being held at Echuca Bowling Club on Friday at 4pm and all bowlers selected are required to attend.
Rich River will be hosting those teams who finished in third and fourth positions on Saturday.
Therefore club members will be required to assist with setting up at 11am, and other duties during the day, until the finish of play, and cleaning up afterwards.
Please advise Franco Perissinotto or Ron Bentley of your availability.
The Rich River ladies prestige fours tournament is being held on Wednesday, February 24, so all club members should make an effort to come along and support all teams from around the district who have entered.
Men's jackpot pairs will, for this week only, shift to Thursday at 12.30pm, the entry sheet for which is on the notice board.
On Sunday, February 21 we hosted the CVBD Champion of Championship Day in which club members featured, representing us in four events.
A huge congratulations to our men's state fours team including Daryl Weymouth, Peter Nesbitt, Colin Hayes and Gerry Devlin who had an extra end, one-shot victory.
Stan Barker and Trevor Nagorcka in the men's state pairs fell short of victory by the narrowest of a one-shot margin in a seesawing tussle with their opponents.
Trevor Nagorcka played brilliantly to record a convincing win in the men's state singles title along with Peter Nesbitt who in a display of steady and thoughtful bowling overcame his opponent to win the men's champion of champions title.
All the winners will now move onto the regional finals at a date yet to be confirmed.
The seemingly ever present and most annoying COVID-19 caused a reduction in numbers for our jackpot pairs on Wednesday, February 17 but nevertheless some excellent results were recorded, with four teams managing to win two games.
Results
1st: John Langley and Ken Dashwood - 57 points/19 shots up.
2nd: Toby Egan and Graeme Williams - 56 points/20 shots up.
3rd: John Hart and Roy Berryman - 56 points/19 shots up.
Repecharge - Darryl Wood and Peter Jackson - 8 shots up.
