The cohort heard from the Goulburn Murray Resilience Strategy Taskforce, Goulburn Murray Prosperity Plan, Gouge Linen and Garment Services, and Plunkett Orchards.
“Not only does the Fairley Leadership Program focus on developing participants’ leadership skills and community networks, but the program also plays a key role in creating awareness of initiatives that aim to inspire and transform our region and communities,” Goulburn Murray Community Leadership executive officer Nathan Bibby said.
“We designed the day to help the 2023 Fairley leadership cohort gain a greater understanding of our regional priorities, industry challenges and discuss with community leaders what it can take to lead important pieces of strategy and change for our region.”
The Regional Priorities and Community Projects Day had four key objectives:
• learn about the key priorities of our region and how they are inter-linked;
• as a community leader, understand the role you play in ensuring your community is prosperous and healthy;
• commence exploring what community projects participants may be interested in delivering; and
• continue to learn and explore the meaning and importance of community leadership and your journey.
“It is great to be partnering with Goulburn Murray Community Leadership and having the opportunity to introduce the Fairley cohort to the Goulburn Murray Resilience Strategy to help them start exploring how they might support sustainable practices across the region,” Goulburn Murray Resilience Strategy Taskforce member Chris Cumming said.
“To maintain community, economic and environmental resilience in response to changes such as our climate requires a community-wide approach to adaptation and management of the wonderful natural assets of our region in a sustainable way.
“This is going to require transformational mindsets, and the Fairley Leadership Program focuses on developing these.
“It is also providing an important platform to continually engage and provide opportunities for emerging community leaders to participate in regional initiatives like the Goulburn Murray Resilience Strategy.”
The Fairley Leadership Program is Goulburn Murray Community Leadership’s flagship program, which takes its cohort of future leaders on an immersive learning experience.
The program educates emerging leaders about the challenges and opportunities impacting on the Goulburn Murray region, equipping them with the leadership skills to make an impact.
