When Melbourne-based street artist Buff Diss had a chance to take part in Wall to Wall, he was unavailable.
Upon hearing that Benalla was going ahead with a rebranded Street Art Festival, he hoped he might still have a chance — then the phone rang.
On the other end of the line was Benalla Street Art Festival curator Eddie Zammit.
“I was pretty lucky to get the invitation from Eddie,” he said.
“And I was really pleased to come here to Benalla to be part of it.”
He said the main pressure he feels when going into a street art festival is around creating a design that fits in with its surroundings.
“So on this one, I’ve got the contour lines, and the colours are based upon a sunset.
“I want it to work so that people don’t have to know that to appreciate it.
“But then, if they want to dig deeper, there’s a back story and more to it.”
Much like many of this festival’s artists, Buff Diss has moved away from aerosols to an acrylic paint that will retain its brightness and vibrant colours for longer.
Buff Diss’s wall is on the side of The Merchant along Nunn St between Bridge and Fawckner Sts, Benalla.
