And with the community free to move around the twin towns, the flu will be far more prominent this year than it was 12 months ago.
To protect the community, Campaspe Shire Council is offering public flu vaccinations with a number of sessions this month.
The council is expecting to administer almost 2000 doses of the vaccine by the end of the month.
General manager of development Paul McKenzie said council had received a full allocation of flu vaccinations for the community.
“Council’s flu vaccination is free for those under five years of age and over 65 years of age, or individuals in the high risk category,” he said.
“The cost for all other community members is $30. Residents must pay for flu vaccinations, by eftpos or credit card only, at their designated immunisation session.
“While the community is generally more diligent with hygiene and is accustomed to social distancing, the flu vaccination remains an important annual vaccine to help prevent serious illness.”
Bookings are essential, and can be made by calling 1300 666 535.
A full list of upcoming immunisation sessions and flu vaccine specific sessions are available on the shire website.
