Solid fuel fires have been banned this summer to limit the risk of bushfires, but with recent rain and cooler weathers, the ban will be lifted from midnight on Friday, April 2.
Then, campers will be able to use wood, charcoal and other solid fuel to light their campfires and barbecues.
“We have reached the end of the formal fire season, so the high-risk period has passed and visitors can light wood or charcoal campfires and barbecues in State forests from Friday,” Forestry Corporation of NSW’s district manager Andrew McCurdy said.
Though the high fire danger has passed, Mr McCurdy still urged all campers to exercise common sense and remain vigilant when lighting and using fires.
“Please use properly constructed fireplaces, sweep away all leaves, grasses and other flammable material around the fireplace before lighting a campfire and make sure your campfire is completely extinguished before you leave the forest,” he said.
“Remember to put safety first and never leave a campfire unattended.”
