We all need a bit of love and care in our life, especially those going through the process of chemotherapy.

That is why Lions volunteers at Yarrawonga, aptly named the Turban Angels, have been coming together to sew, pack and dispatch turbans for cancer patients in the last decade.
And Deniliquin is now an outlet for these turbans, thanks to a partnership between the Yarrawonga Lions and their District V6 counterparts at the Deni Lions, and the St Paul’s Anglican Op Shop.
Lion Darryl Whateley said distributing the turbans through the op shop seems most appropriate, and most accessible.
The Turban Angles initiative was launched by Yarrawonga’s Debbie Van Corler OAM.
Her OAM was presented for her role in the program, which has now seen more than 70,000 turbans donated to people with cancer.
Mrs Van Corler’s first was made for her own mother, and she was subsequently determined to find a way to bring dignity to more who needed it.
Mr Whateley said the op shop would also stock Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pump bags, also donated by the Yarrawonga group.
“It is a general Lions initiative, and as part of the V6 district Deniliquin Lions we are just a conduit and an outlet for the amazing work done by the Lions Yarrawonga and the Turban Angel members,” Mr Whateley said.
“It's been going for a number of years, and they’ve been very productive.”
Op Shop volunteer Sue Buckley said the headwear and accessories are free to those who need them.
“If people come to the Anglican Church Op Shop on the corner of Harrison St and Wellington St behind the Anglican Church, they’ll be looked after,” Mrs Buckley said.
“The op shop is open 9am to 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
