It’s the third time the Strathmerton venue has hosted an event celebrating the traditional Mexican holiday.
Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, celebrates loved ones who have died and life itself, with traditions including offerings, yellow marigold flowers and dressing up with Calavera (skull) painted faces.
Cactus Country event organiser Shamim Hussain said they had gone “a bit bigger” for this year’s event.
“It’s a really good way to get the local community into something a bit different; not many people probably know about the holiday so it’s nice to educate people as well,” she said.
“We encourage dressing up, you don’t have to, but we’ll also have the face painter here if you want to get into the spirit.”
Guests will receive a drink on arrival — either a Corona beer or a cider, to stay on theme — and Mexican tapas-style canapés will be served.
Entertainment will feature mariachi band Los Romanticos and a fire dancer from FireLily, as well as face painting and a glitter tattoo artist.
The venue will be decorated with all the traditions of the holiday and staged photo areas will be set up for some snaps to remember the night by.
The event is on Saturday, November 5 from 7pm to midnight at Cactus Country, 4986 Murray Valley Hwy, Strathmerton.
Day of the Dead is an 18+ event and tickets are $135 per person, available at cactuscountry.com.au or at Cactus Country’s reception.
