After not being able to fundraise last year, the school is selling engraved pavers that will then be laid in the main area of the school.
Parents and Citizens’ Association president Malcolm Starritt said it was a great chance for the school to continue developing the bond with the school community while raising money at the same time.
“While the school was thankfully able to stay open during the COVID-19 lockdown last year and we have been able to function almost normally, we also haven't been able to fundraise as much as we wanted to,” he said.
“In the past, we've been able to cater for sheep sales and raised money that way, but with most sales going online, there's no guarantee we'll be able to continue doing that.”
Mr Starritt said together with the school, the P&C had to get creative when coming up with new ideas.
“We had a look on what we had done to fundraise in the past and came across our paver project,” Bunnaloo Public School principal Darren Devereux said.
“The last time we did it was 11 years ago, so we thought why not bring it back?
“There are a few students who actually had their names or family name engraved way back then and are now attending the school, so it will be great to keep that tradition going.”
The money raised by the project will go to a number of school trips and programs.
“We have a list of events and initiatives we always raise money for, including the school's music program, buses for the swimming program, excursions to places like Canberra and Melbourne,” Mr Devereux said.
“Plus any other ongoing projects we've had, such as the students’ eating area and sandpit.
“We're hoping to put the money to any of those worthy causes.”
The pavers can be bought for $40 and will be placed in the common area of the school, between the office and classrooms.
To buy a paver, contact the school on 5489 7275 or email the P&C on bunnaloopublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au
Pavers must be secured by June 23 and will be laid in the third school term.
