City of Echuca Bowls Club no more - club changes name in historic vote

A MOMENT in history for the Echuca Bowls Club was created last week in a special general meeting. After much discussion and following recommendations from the board, members voted overwhelmingly in favour of officially changing the club's name from City of Echuca Bowls Club to Echuca Bowls Club. Members also voted to change the club's branding and uniform.

Following the special meeting, the AGM was held where Trevor Rickard was elected president and Jerome Shaw vice-president.

Ian Whiting will continue as treasurer with great assistance from Anna Meyer. Gayle Kerr also joined the board, replacing Lal Whyte who did not re-nominate.

The bowls committee will be led by chairman Daryl LaVelle, with Linda Ormando as vice chairman. Committee members are June Clifford (sec), Belinda Chong, Frank Gumbleton, Dick North, Marie Malone, Max Clifford and Ivan Hicks. Rhonda Gallagher will continue as tournament director.

Monday’s social bowls saw Jim Ferrier, Ray McDonnell and Daryl LaVelle (53 points) take home the prize by one shot from John Blair, Anne Vanderkley and Steve Cook.

Forty players attended Thursday’s Men’s Jackpot Pairs where Peter O’Brian and Col Berryman, being the only two game winners, were successful ahead of Trevor Rickard and Max Clifford with one and a half wins (+11).

Best one game went to Peter and Chooka Tinning with 23.

The jackpot was won by Jim Harris and Greg Clymo.
