A select group of 50 Cobram Secondary College students watched the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday, December 14.

The students were chosen due to their diligence and application to their studies, as well as for being kind and caring across the year.

College head of English and high-abilities co-ordinator Emily Kirkman and science teacher and high-abilities co-ordinator George Allen accompanied the students.

Miss Kirkman said the experience was a way to reward the students in a unique way.

“This is an experience that many of our students may not have the opportunity to have,” Miss Kirkman said.

“It is something that can be really challenging to do when living regionally. For many of our students, a trip to Melbourne is special and they may never have been to the theatre before.”

Students not only were able to see the stage show but meet the cast afterwards for a question and answer session.

Year 8 student Isabel Sierra said she was extremely happy to be chosen and that the play was incredible.

“I loved it all and the play’s effects were so incredible,” she said.

“I’ve read almost all the books and seen the movies, I’ve even read and own the script book. I also liked the Q and A afterwards and the ripple special effect.”

The play is a sequel to the Harry Potter book and movie series and depicts the children of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley as they navigate their time in Hogwarts.

Students were originally meant to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in October but due to flooding the trip was postponed.
