Cohuna set to get electric vehicle charging station

ELECTRIC vehicle owners in and around Cohuna will soon be able to charge their vehicles after the Victorian Government announced it would be investing in new infrastructure across north-western Victoria. The government is providing $664,000 from its $2.7 billion Building Works package to support the installation of more than 15 electric vehicle charging stations across the region. “The council is pleased that the state government is providing funding for this growing sector, with Cohuna and Kerang to be the first towns in the Gannawarra to boast charging stations,” council chief executive Tom O’Reilly said. “The installation of these stations within the Gannawarra builds on the council’s environmentally sustainable initiatives, highlighted by support of investment in renewable energy and our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.” The towns earmarked for charging stations were identified by the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance — of which council is a member — and feedback from local governments across the region. “The council identified Cohuna and Kerang as key locations for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations due to their proximity to the Loddon Valley and Murray Valley highways, which connect the Gannawarra to other regional centres,” Mr O’Reilly said. “We look forward to partnering with the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance and the state government on this project to finalise details and announce specific installation locations as the project progresses.”
