The project, which is part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections Project and is supported by the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund, aims to provide greater connections between the Cohuna CBD and Garden Park.
“Residents and visitors are already benefiting from the first section of these works, which involved the replacement of paving along the Garden Park section of King George St prior to Christmas,” acting council chief executive officer Geoff Rollinson said.
“It is anticipated the works that are under way will build on the success of improvements made to Apex Park, and will inspire further commercial and liveability opportunities for both residents and visitors.”
Improvements to the intersection of King George and Sampson sts are scheduled to take four to six weeks to complete, with pedestrian access around this area to be diverted as these works occur.
Meanwhile, the Garden Park car park, at the rear of the park’s sound shell, will be closed until the completion of all works associated with stage two of the development.
“Work associated with other key components of the development, including construction of deck pontoon on the banks of Gunbower Creek and dedicated outdoor dining areas either side of the King George St pedestrian crossing, will begin in the coming weeks,” Mr Rollinson said.
“Council thanks residents, business owners and visitors for their patience as these works occur, which are scheduled for completion by March.”
