Hosted at St Mary’s Church Hall from 11am to 3pm, it will feature cultural displays from Filipino, Timorese, Fijian and Sri Lankan communities. Simon Tengende from 2 Tribes will be master of ceremonies, also sharing Zimbabwean traditions with attendees.
Activities on the day include a fashion parade, henna, Polynesian story time, an arts and crafts table, dance performances and a photo booth.
Zinda began in Bendigo in 2018 and is held annually to celebrate diversity through song, dance, cuisine, and culture.
The day will commence with an Acknowledgement of Country by Wakka Wakka man Uncle Paul Chapman, who will also lead a didgeridoo workshop.
Mugi Rahayu Indonesian Gamelan will play traditional instruments and in Javanese dress, while the Echuca Sri Lankan community with share two performances.
Tongala’s Samoan and Fijian communities will share dances, and Shepparton-based West African gospel band ‘Anointed’ will perform.
An array of Pacific Island and Filipino food is set to impress.
The name Zinda, meaning ‘alive’ or ‘lively’, comes from the Dari, Bengali, Farsi, Hindi, Hazaraghi, and Urdu languages.
The event is a collaborative effort between Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services, the Victorian Government, Campaspe Shire, Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit, St Mary’s Parish, and 2 Tribes.
