With ERH servicing a population of 52,000, chief executive Robyn Lindsay acknowledged the work of the many people that kept the service operating at such a high standard.
“I’m really proud of the team,” she said.
“It’s an effort that’s put down to our 1100 staff, all of our volunteers, community members, everyone who takes the time to contribute to the planning and gives us feedback so we can keep improving.”
In the past year, ERH received close to 30,000 Emergency Department visits, performed more than 4000 operations, admitted 17,000 inpatients, supported 70,000 community and home-based services and delivered close to 400 babies.
As ERH is the region’s single biggest employer, Ms Lindsay recognised the importance of providing top-quality care at a large scale.
“It’s a big responsibility to be the largest employer in town and to make sure people have a really safe, calm and connected place to come to work and that the community have confidence in the services,” she said.
“We do take that very seriously and we try to make sure it is the best possible place to work and receive care.”
ERH board chairperson Stacy Williams highlighted the connectedness between the service and the community.
“You might have been a patient, you might have been a volunteer, or you might know someone who works there,” she said.
“We do what we can to provide a great place to be.”
