Team Corowa has won the 2024 Sunshine Walk Cup which was presented at Rowers Park last Thursday, December 19 by Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Board member Bryan Blake.
In this year’s Sunshine Walk a Corowa record of 72 walkers set off from Rowers Park to walk and raise funds for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
The walk involved either 10km or 5km options and followed the amazing river paths in both Corowa and Wahgunyah.
Mr Blake described Team Corowa’s effort as “fantastic” and that enthusiasm displayed “gives us the momentum for it”.
“The $9,002 is an amazing amount of money in this beautiful place for the walk. Thank you very much to everyone involved. Overall, $140,000 was raised by 66 teams involving some 900 walkers.”
In response, Team Corowa committee’s Cassandra Hughes said: “We are very proud our town got behind us and supported us, raising $9,002.
“We thank a lot of people involved to make it a real Team Corowa effort – the most walkers we’ve had in our six years.”
In the six years the Corowa event has run in conjunction to the main walk in Albury, it has raised over $60,000.
The revenue helps with education and training, the wellbeing centre and new equipment.
The Sunshine Walk is a wonderful display of community spirit and show of support for people in our region impacted by cancer. Team Corowa is keen to see next year’s walk be even bigger.
