The 11 free monthly sessions will focus on building the confidence to be more independent for those with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds living with disability.
Program manager Christian Astourian said Shepparton's large CALD community meant it was the perfect place to host the support program, which originated in the North West Metropolitan region.
“A lot of people with disability are isolated and it's difficult to reach them with information and support,” he said.
“These sessions provide an opportunity for people to come together and be more independent.
“The success of the program over the years has allowed us to expand it to other regions.”
These locations include Dandenong, Broadmeadows and Bendigo.
Shepparton program facilitator Athena Papadatos said she hoped all the sessions would be held in person, but there was flexibility to run the program online if the need or interest arose.
“Trying to teach someone the skills and confidence to speak for themselves is much easier face to face,” she said.
Ms Papadatos said if interest and numbers increased in the program she would happily run the sessions fortnightly instead of monthly.
“It's all about focusing on developing their skills in isolation,” she said.
“A lot of activities and groups have stopped during COVID-19 because people are lacking the confidence and knowledge with technology.
“These sessions are also a place for the community telling us what they want to learn about, what assistance they need.”
The sessions will likely begin by the end of the month, if there are no further delays due to COVID-19.
Sessions are limited to 15 people per session and will run from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.
