The club donated $2200 from its annual Barrie Beehag ski race, held in honour of the former club president who passed away from cancer in 2006.
“Each year we put together some money from the race and donate to the ERH oncology department,” Moama Water Sports Club president Stephen Shipp said.
“It’s something we’ve done since the race’s inception.”
The equipment is used to measure tissue fluid in the upper and lower limbs as well as bilateral limb fluid measurements before and after surgery.
“This equipment allows us to monitor for lymphoedema in our patients who have breast, gynaecological and prostate cancer surgery where unhealthy fluid can collect in limbs,” ERH nurse unit manager Lyn Jeffreson said.
“The benefit of this therapy is we can detect problems early and initiate treatment in a timely way to avoid the quite serious complications of limb infection and circulation problems.”
The equipment will also be a great asset for the new cancer and wellness centre on its completion, which is expected in 2022.
ERH said it was extremely grateful to the club for its ongoing support during the past 14 years in raising funds for the health service.
